CP Training

Citizens Patrol Training is scheduled for Saturday, May 18th and begins at 10am. We will start with a short training on suspect descriptions as part of our quarterly training. We will also be holding an initial training class for those who would like to become citizens patrol drivers and/or riders.

The morning will be broken into parts where those who are already CP members can attend the suspect descriptions training and then leave before the newbies get trained up on the initial CP member class.

As always, ALL alumni members are welcome to attend any of these training classes. In fact, I recommend that all of you attend to take advantage of the training. It will help everyone in their personal lives and will help our community should you witness something critically important at a crime scene and need to describe it to us.

Hope to see all of you there. I’ll have hot coffee ready. If anyone feels the urge to bring a snack to share, you’re welcome to do so.

Law Enforcement Week

Don’t forget that May 12-18 is Law Enforcement Week. Many of you have sent cards or notes that will be delivered throughout the week to the great men and women of our Garden Ridge Police Department. The Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association is also sponsoring several lunches during the week, and as always, you are welcome to stop in and say thanks in person, or when you see our officers out in public. They are always happy to hear from you, and getting the occasional “thanks!” is especially nice.

2019 Car Show

Although the weather gave us a bit of scare in the early part of the day, the 5th Annual Garden Ridge Open Car Show turned out to be another successful event for the organization. There were 69 total entries in the show this year, and after the morning showers cleared out, it turned into a beautiful spring day! Here’s a slideshow with some highlights from this years event:

GRCPA Graduation

On April 9th, 2019, a banquet was held for the 2019 Garden Ridge Citizen Police Academy Graduates. A catered dinner was served, followed by the graduation ceremony for the class of 2019, emceed by Chief Ron Eberhart and Lt. Dan Bellinger.

This group of fellow Garden Ridge area citizens completed the 10 week long Citizen Policy Academy training course, put on by the City of Garden Ridge Police Department.

During Week 1, Kim R. volunteered to be Chief for the new class, and then everyone was divided into two squads: the Red Squad with their Sgt. Richard H., and the Blue Squad with Sgt. Jonathan B. Each week the squads took turns providing dinner and refreshments to attendees, since the class took place during the dinner hours every Tuesday evening.

Overall, everyone seemed to enjoy the class, especially getting to know fellow neighbors, and of course the fine officers of our local Police Department!

Several awards were given out during the banquet, including the Top Gun award for the best score on the shooting range, which went to Ron R., and a special Taser Recipient Award for fellow classmate Denice H., who volunteered to get tasered during week 4!
